Pardon my ignorance but if a caucasian family has lived in Africa for...say a few generations.

Would they be considered....European African? Similar to African Americans?

I have a white friend from South Africa. His family's been there for generations. He's just considered "African" even though he's white. Hyphenated labels of heritage/ethnicity seem more prevalent in America than they do in other parts of the world.
