Could you truly ever trust anyone online completely?

Sometimes you can completely surprised by someone you've known in real life for many years, and then realise they weren't the person you thought they were. I tend to treat everyone online as being the person they say they are, while at the same time not making myself too vulnerable in case they turn out not to be.

I just treat everyone the same regardless. After recent events, I have decided to keep a special distance from online interaction. I can never determine what is what or who is who online I just decide not to care. It seems deception is more commonplace here after all...so I prefer to be missed by such BS. I'm happier like this.

@SW-User Feel for you. Maybe it's how I carry my words, while I believe in fairness, or my exes's father deal with cancer, I sort of hate how I supposed to respond. I can only imagine her anger, as an only child, who rightfully ignores social media

@SW-User I think I've been in that place too. I frequently withdraw completely from social media, although I could name about a dozen people here (and one who sadly isn't here at the moment) that I trust as much as anyone in real life and I'm glad I do care about them. We each have to deal with this kind of stuff in a way that works for us.
