I don't even trust people I know in real life completely, Trust takes time to earn, and while I trust people with most things, there is not one person I trust with every little secret I have, Online or not.

GlassDog · 46-50, M
Sometimes you can completely surprised by someone you've known in real life for many years, and then realise they weren't the person you thought they were. I tend to treat everyone online as being the person they say they are, while at the same time not making myself too vulnerable in case they turn out not to be.
SW-User
I just treat everyone the same regardless. After recent events, I have decided to keep a special distance from online interaction. I can never determine what is what or who is who online I just decide not to care. It seems deception is more commonplace here after all...so I prefer to be missed by such BS. I'm happier like this.

@SW-User Feel for you. Maybe it's how I carry my words, while I believe in fairness, or my exes's father deal with cancer, I sort of hate how I supposed to respond. I can only imagine her anger, as an only child, who rightfully ignores social media
GlassDog · 46-50, M
@SW-User I think I've been in that place too. I frequently withdraw completely from social media, although I could name about a dozen people here (and one who sadly isn't here at the moment) that I trust as much as anyone in real life and I'm glad I do care about them. We each have to deal with this kind of stuff in a way that works for us.

Can't truly trust most people in the real world completely, let alone online. Proceed with caution my friends.

I can definitely trust my completely online gf who I have never met or skyped or seen more than one photo of.

Yes as long as they don't know me in person i can talk about anything
SW-User
It's very difficult because people can be whomever they wish online.
I have known and trusted a lot of online people but there are times when you think perhaps I'm not being told the whole truth.

One even told me her real name only for that to transpire to be utterly false. So if they can lie about the simple small things then they can be far more complex and extravagant about the bigger picture
Bebop · 31-35, M
sure. just gotta check for consistancy.
BittersweetPotato · 31-35, F
Yes very much. I have friends who I completely trust.
SW-User
why would you even want to! There's no need to trust people online, just take them at face value! You'd be pretty stupid to believe anything you hear about anyone online and take it as absolute truth.

Example - I'm a genuine person and I have heard all kinds of tales about myself online .. I know what is true and what isn't but I've seen people happy to believe the worst of me and because a certain lie has been repeated over and over and over by nasty people doesn't mean that it is true!
SW-User
You speak truth. I'm sorry you've been through such dread. I can't wait until all this identity drama die down.
SW-User
@SW-User I think it is best to just ignore it and enjoy yourself online. I block people who keep on going on about people being fakes.. The funny thing is, the people who accuse others of being fake sometimes are huge nasty trolls, why trust what they say!
@SW-User Because theres many people who struggle to make & keep friends in person.
SW-User
Please don't do that

not completely.
dont trust anyone for that matter.
BabyLonia · F
I could and i have, despite having seen the worst of people here there are some great people too. Be guarded, be careful :)
dequesnewhistle · 46-50, M
@BabyLonia what to do with people who you have open conversation with, then suddenly they block you? No recourse, no why, no ask, only I know her as a 61-69 year old woman, with vitality, but she got caught up in being a writer?
BabyLonia · F
@dequesnewhistle you just have to accept it, as painful as it is. They obviously did not respect you enough to give you reason
dequesnewhistle · 46-50, M
@BabyLonia Yes, that's not my why, when really I have is why and I sort of liked their writing.
SW-User
With due time. Initially, no
SW-User
