Why is reality so harsh and brutal?

Nobody even cares about your problems, rude, and don't even care if my feelings are hurt. My dad told me as a teen that get used to it, people are GOING to be like that and get out of that fantasy would. My mom said, "He could have said it in a more tactful way but he's right. People aren't going to care about you so that's why we're trying to toughen you up and quit being so sensitive and a crybaby about it. I was 15 at the time. I wish my parents wasn't so brutally honest.

No, mine were just .. disinterested. The idea of getting positive or negative attention from them as a teenager would have astonished me.

Not that your Dad doesn't have a point, but I'd have tried to put it in a more palatable, less harsh form myself - it's pretty strong & painful realisation for a teenager
