Of course, there is truth, factual truth, self-truth, truths that I have discovered through exploring life. What is true for one, might not be true to another. All truths could be analyzed and disputed, but even if one is proved correct you are bound to have someone else object and see it differently.

How then, would 1 + 1 not be 2?

I'm not disagreeing, I'm just trying to see where that fits.
@reveurdelabime: what I'm saying is that most people do not even examine their own truths out of fear or shame, so they are not going to be fully knowledgeable about other truths surrounding them.

So if people do examine what they believe to be true, can they then discover what is true?
Most likely, yes. But sometimes you can have moments of doubt and need to examine something more closely.

What would people use to examine their beliefs?
Values, morals, common sense, being able to look at the entire picture in a logical realistic way.

I don't think realistic is perhaps the right word, but I do agree that logic & reasoning are great ways of examining our beliefs, and values & morals can be used as a guideline, a direction, but not departing from logic necessarily.
