Diamonds are in abundance! So not so valuable, plus they can make diamonds. Gold is used in electronics, so we use more of it!

price of diamonds is artificially boosted. when in doubt, rely on gold.

Like on the open market? Depends on the diamond, their pricing curve is not really linear. A 2 carat diamond would be worth more than two 1 carat diamonds.

Also neither thing is really intrinsically valuable on its own, people just like shiny and sparkly things.
