Not to be a contrarian, but there's no such thing, medically speaking, as 'feeling depressed'. One either has depression or doesn't: It's an illness not simply state of mind. I say this in defense of those who suffer from depression.
Feeling sad, morose, melancholy and such are perhaps more accurate here.

It seems that most people use the DSM as nothing more than toilet paper. Not only are they feeling depressed, they're "antisocial." Also, everyone they've dated is a psychopath, and they are bipolar every now and then.

Having counseled people with depression for many years I can tell you that very often people have much more power over their depression than they think they do and do not need meds. That word "depression" has been overused and people are convinced it's "clinical" when all many need is guidance out of that depression by taking responsibility for their lives, behaviors and thoughts.
