Just a little reflection of modern day mentality...

Earlier today, I posted a photo on my Instagram. Just a picture of the sky with a caption on the gloomy weather there's been lately. In two hours, it got two likes.
About ten minutes ago, I posted another photo - this time, a selfie. Nothing super "exciting," pretty much just a typical selfie. However, that post currently has five likes.

Isn't it amazing how much more people care about looks and attraction, rather than the beauty found in nature? Or, really, the beauty found in anything that isn't a person's face. Most of what I post on Instagram is about something other than my own face, so I've noticed this before. A photo were I'm trying to express some sort of creative individuality receives a small fraction of attention compared to any given selfie. And honestly, that bums me out. It really does seem to show what most people care about, and I'm sure most of those people would unfollow if I refrained from the occasional selfie.

I don't have a bunch of followers, nor do I care to. What content I share that people like or dislike is irrelevant to me, but even still it's interesting to see this sort of thing. And I'm sure if I was a bit more attractive or posted more revealing photos (or both) I'd probably see this trend even more.

What do you guys think about this? And excuse the messiness of this post, it's just one continuous train of thought to vent frustration haha.

I think you have to know your audience and your media outlet. I am not a selfie person. I'd much rather see photos of nature or art or something interesting, good composition, something that strikes a chord in me. I adore my friends, and I like seeing their photos of what they're doing, what makes them happy, but if all someone posts are selfies seeking attention I'm immediately bored and on to the next thing. This and facebook are the primary social media sites I use. I enjoy conversations with people here, and I use facebook to keep up with friends and family. I don't get the whole selfie thing other than maybe once in a while or for a profile pic or for your business if you're a beauty blogger or something like that.
