Does anyone think that pennies should stop being produced?

Maybe in the 1950's a kid can go buy a piece of candy for a nickel or five pennies but now it literally seems as if pennies are just there just to be there. Maybe it would be better if their production stopped and those materials are put to a better use. Just my thoughts. What do you guys think?

They're not pure copper. I think they only serve the purpose to help you make exact change these days lol
@littleblackbird Yeah the copper is really minimal. I think the ones before the 40's or 50's were pure copper. Those would be valuable.

Ok I read up on it. Only pennies before 1983 were mostly copper. Now they're mostly zinc but with a thin copper layer. Thanks for telling me that and yeah exact change is a must.
