do you think saying a pet is family devalues actual family members who are blood relatives?

do you think saying that a pet is family devalues your blood relatives? I hate when people say their pets are family, my dad says our cat is my sister and I hate it. If I die I hope they will cry a lot more then if this cat dies.I dont want it to die but if one of us had to die I would rather it be the cat then me. I love cats though, I would be very sad and upset for a long time if she died.

I have to disagree. Pets are family. They don’t rank higher than your human relatives. But they are apart of your family. Yes, your family will cry and morn your loss more than they will your cat.
But the loss of your cat will diminish the size of your family. The living being that gave you love and joy will be gone.
The difference of course is a cat can be replaced a human can’t.

It annoys me as well, but I try to look past it. Everyone has their quirks.

@Girlyfriendcollecting I think he loves you much more for sure, he's just not that good at parenting and communicating his thoughts and feelings to you.
It's sad when pets die, but when your child dies, that's enough to get u depressed and even fall out of life, become alcoholic or a drug addict. Suffering such losses, can really derail u from your path. Death of a cat will never do that to you.
thank you that really helps 🥰🤗

@Girlyfriendcollecting I'm glad it helped ☺️

No pets are just a part of the family as anybody

I think of pets as part of the family

If it's taken too literally, yes. Mostly I've heard people say it jokingly or mean it less literally than it sounds. A family pet fills the pet role in a family. Calling it your sister is going too far IMO, but he probably doesn't mean it that literally.
Yes, for me it's degrading human value and degree

No, I like treating pets as part of the family.

No. Family pets are just that. Family. To be mourned as much as flesh and blood.

Many blood relatives do an outstanding job of devaluing themselves.

Whilst pets can be part of a family, refering to the cat as your sister is a bit weird. Someone told me "what you do and what you bring makes you family, not blood". I tend to agree.

No, pets may be different but they still make up part of the family
