Manly men of SW: what makes you manly?

xixgun · M
Well, in my experience, it's not the stereotypical stuff. "Big, burly, cut like a Greek god" doesn't necessarily make you "manly". I've seen lots of guys like that who'd turn right around and wear a dress and tell you to call them Simone.

No. To me, manliness is using your strengths (mental and/or physical) to help those weaker than yourself, to defend those who cannot defend themselves. You don't have to be built like the Hulk to be manly, and just being male doesn't make you manly either.

No man, beats on a woman or a child or an animal, just for the hell of it. Those are males, not men.
And they sure as hell ain't manly.

If I'm not mistaken there is a far better term for what you're speaking about.

That when you say manly man you're actually berating or characterizing hypermasculine men.

I won't venture a guess about what anyones appraisal at any moment of me happens to be but it's easy to make some assumptions about it.

For one thing this is probably often misidentified by persons who know very little about the general male physiological development, various contrasting cultural norms, and personal familiarity.

It's asserted to be more common in youthfulness and in men that it's believed feel a need to overcompensate for some personal insecurity, according to some who consider themselves experts on the subject.

I am skeptical that there really is such a thing as an expert on sculines. Much less people in general.

@SteelHands I think you are mistaken
SteelHands · 61-69, M
@SomeHand That's always a possibility though it's my opinion. You asked for it. I read and considered the question well and am rarely wrong about what my opinion is.

What cause you may have to doubt my words is of no importance to me.

Dwindling but still present testosterone, hard work, Popeye arms, skills and experience that are traditionally associated with rugged individualist survivor hero types. Alpha type personality. Assertive nature with 'on call' aggression. Enough barbaric fatalism to kill, enough realism to die, and enough sensitive idealism to live.
