What exactly is a fetish.

Depends on the context. A fetish can be religious as well as sexual but most people mean the sexual one.

Maybe this is gatekeeping but I don't consider it a fetish unless you CANNOT orgasm without at least thinking of the fetish on the way.

I have a fetish. I wish I could get rid of it.

@Doomflower Fetishes are very powerful. It's better we learn how to accept them as a part of our personality.
@Doomflower Yeah that probably won't happen. Unless it's something illegal or like physically repulses you it's best just to embrace it and maybe find some like minded people to share it with.

@helenS yes I think k it would be wise

How do you get into a relationship that includes your fetish though?

Like... if I lead with it on a dating profile all I will get is perverts looking to hook up. If I bring it up too soon it sends the wrong message.

If I wait until we are comfortable with each other to have that convo one or both is usually somewhat attached and it is awkward or impossible to tell someone I can't be with them long term or at least not exclusively because of this one thing.

Ideally I would have a person who could be a partner and my lover but it just seems like I can't make the two line up.

@Doomflower Has happened to me as well. I loved a person (who loved me too) but the relationship did not work out because of that fetish thing.

@Doomflower this has happened to me as well! I feel your pain. :(

I am afraid I will end up alone.

@Doomflower I'm sorry. :( I have a weird fetish and I don't think I will be alone
@Doomflower Well I'm 32 now and I also have a fetish and my life has been plagued with failed relationships because of it. If I was dishonest and tried to hide it, I wouldn't be able to get aroused properly which obviously kills any kind of romantic relationship and if I was honest about it, they either wouldn't want to even entertain it or even if they did they wouldn't really be into it which again makes it hard to pursue any kind of romantic relationship.

I think you have to find someone that's into what you're into, but is also normal enough that you can have a relationship with and that's incredibly difficult. It's hard enough to find someone as it is to find someone where everything matches up AND they happen to share your fetish is like finding a unicorn in a haystack BUT they do exist so you just have to find them.

@MrBlueGuy yes I agree 🙁

@MrBlueGuy The point is that many many people have similar fetishes. Unfortunately, too many are afraid to admit. Similar to gay people, a century ago.
@helenS Very true you have probably millions of people suffering thinking they are alone and there could be someone 3 doors down thinking the same thing.
