Baking my first cake. Got a newbie question.

I took the recipe off youtube. So I didn't know what butter milk was and I put regular 3,5% milk. Also it said that you need to pre-heat the oven at 350 degrees and bake for 30-35 minutes, but my oven doesn't go past 250.
So do I bake it longer to make it good? about how long? Also is the milk going to make much of a difference?

EDIT: Holy shiiiiii.. I just realized that 350 degrees could've been Fahrenheit, not celsius x.x

I just looked, it was 176 celsius, damn

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 oh this is music honestly. But sorry. I dont know about the buttermilk as I'm vegan but the oven setting is in Fahrenheit it your oven is in centigrade. Google the conversion and you'll see your oven gets more than hot enough :)

@DreamCoCreators yeah thanks, I realized that midway. It was 176C, I quickly changed it. Still waiting, hopefully if not delicious, it will at least be edible.

@Dan193 if they top crisps up but a clean knife comes out sticky after u Stab the middle, cover it with cool it'll cook thru :)

@DreamCoCreators yes, I did the toothpick test, and it's not watery. I took it out of the oven just now. The shape is... let's just say it doesn't look like in the video 😂
I'm letting it to cool off, then I'll see how it tastes.

Bake it longer maybe?Keep a watch on it, make sure it doesn't burn. Adjust temp as needed. As long as it rises.
I baked my first cake not too long ago...was a disaster. But!I hear it's usually good to have a test run when baking with a new recipe. So if this one doesn't turn out good, then try again. :)

@SW-User yes, I just checked on it again. I looks like the stars are aligning. Seems like it's almost done. I gave it the toothpick test and it's nor watery no more.

@Dan193 😨Send me a pic if it turns out okay(if you want).

@SW-User Alright, I will.

You probably have a Celsius oven, you need to convert the 350 to Celsius 😱
Are you making bread... You need the butter milk... It's not the same as ordinary milk
You should be able to get in any grocery store
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@SW-User Thankyou

I was going to ask why you waited so long to bake a cake.. but after reading this I can see why !! 😂I really hope it comes out edible !! Good luck...🤗
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Gentlemickey Thanks, with all the hoops and mess ups, it turned out good. It's soft, just sweet enough, didn't burn it. Only the shape is a little off, but it tastes good.

If I were you, I'd change dials on oven...

Dan193 · 31-35, M
@wildbill83 yes, this is very helpful, thankyou
DreamCoCreators · 36-40, M
@wildbill83 I want one!!

One of the differences between buttermilk and regular milk is the fat content. There mau also be a bit od a taste diffrence as well. There is a way of substituting for bettermilk but not sure what it is but you should be able to find it online.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MasterDvdC if I added regular butter in it, would it work? I have some in the fridge and a second batch coming.
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M
Doubtful. Buttermilk is the liquid left over from making butter. Better to stay with the regular milk if the first one comes out
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@MasterDvdC Thanks, it turned out almost as I invisionated it. The shape is a little off, but ot tastes great.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
generally speaking, buttermilk will make bread more dense/doughy, whole milk will make it softer (like light/sandwich bread). sugar/sweetener and vegetable oil also play a big factor on taste/consistency
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
I bake bread pretty regularly in the winter
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@wildbill83 oh nice, I wanted it to be softer anyway. Thankyou for the info, much appreciated.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
The milk should be ok. Oven temp? Is your oven calibrated to the metric system? 350 is an average baking temperature in a Fahrenheit temperature oven.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Crazywaterspring yeah, just realized that as well and I turned it down at 176C. Hopefully it was not too late.
Butterflykisses24 · 51-55, F
Milk ok oven temp no go.
Dan193 · 31-35, M
@Butterflykisses24 I know, I just realized it was 350F which is 176 celsius. But I set mine at max 250C x.x
I just turn it down.
