What are your thoughts on Acer laptops?

They're probably one of the best 2nd tier laptop makers.

I tend to be partial to Lenovo ones. Unless you need the latest, top of the line model, I've done real well with refurbished off lease Lenovo laptops. I'm writing this on a Lenovo T420 that I've had for several years.

Not with Lenovo and Asus, not with Toshiba and HP and Samsung, definitely third tier

@th3r0n As other brands go ... My company was briefly using Toshiba laptops. One of my friends who was unlucky enough to get one joked that his laptop was constantly getting lighter ... seems like some part of it fell off every month or so.

@Stereoguy Other tidbit on Toshiba laptops ... For a while, we shared a building with some folks working for Toshiba. The Toshiba employees were issued Lenovo laptops ... I guess they don't believe on eating their own cooking.
