Is it easier to make friends in person or online?

I get the same reaction. Making them is easy but keeping them is hard. 🤔
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@Dusty101 Thanks. You seem nice enough, so I dont see why your friends disappear on you.

@NewKidInTown ok I have one best friend who has been my rock since I was 17.
I reconnected with two school pals 6 years ago.
And that dwindled. I don't see them anymore.
I keep my work colleagues at work.
On here I have 3 or 4 close friends... some have left so that is why I said it's hard to keep them.
I enjoy being alone and I am a lot of the time. Which is fine. I do have a big personality but I can get overwhelmed in big groups of people. So that's really it. And I have no idea why the girls friendship from school dwindled it did hurt. But I'm not allowing it to hurt me anymore.

@Dusty101 Thank you for sharing all of that. It's really difficult keeping friendships from childhood. I think it's because people can change so much as theu get older, and the things you had in common as kids aren't enough to keep you together. I recently made the decision to cut ties with couple of highschool friends. When I say cut ties, I mean I won't be making any effort to see or contact them, as they never seem to make the effort themselves. Maybe they have already made the decision to sever ties themselves. Life is too short to try to be with people who don't want to be with you.

This is an interesting question🤔
I see perks to both.

I like being able to read someone's face expression/ body language
I'm jokey/sarcastic. Someone that doesn't see me isn't always able to pick up on that.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SW-User Adding a face to the conversation is always preferable, especially the eyes.
And yes, don't get me started on how often my dry sense of humour fell flat or was misinterpreted 😁

@NewKidInTown
😂I get you
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SW-User I know you do :)

@Teachocolate Pourquoi?

I don’t find the making friends hard, but the ensuing friendship makes me claustrophobic. It is much easier online
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SW-User I wonder what that stems from?
SW-User
@NewKidInTown ummm🤔 I’m mentally fkd up??!!
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SW-User That would do it
😆
JustNik · 51-55, F
I think it’s easier to talk online. I don’t think the friend thing is easier anywhere. I just don’t have that talent.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@JustNik So....we wouldn't be friends irl?
Pshaw!
JustNik · 51-55, F
@NewKidInTown sure we would. But it would be all your fault. LOL
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@JustNik If you have to blame it one something , Blame it On the Rain!

In person. I made one friend online once, but I think that turned out to be a misunderstanding on my part. It's easier to read people in person.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SW-User I agree it's easier to read someone in person, more visual clues, body language.
I can usually tell if someone is lying if their nose starts to grow.
Starbursteffect · 51-55, F
In person for sure. You can see their eyes and smile and feel their energy.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@Starbursteffect All very good points. You can never underestimate the energy you feel from someone, and whether it is positive or negative.
JordanAlorow · 26-30, M
it depends on the person.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@JordanAlorow Ah, that is a good point. Some people are easier to read, or just put it "out there" more easily than others.
JordanAlorow · 26-30, M
I ve met really awesome people both online and also in real life. Wakcos exist in both realms as well. I try to keep an open mind to anyone really.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@JordanAlorow you really do, even though tjat can be difficult. Instead of physical first impressions, online I find usernames or profile pics are the first impression.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether weird is the new normal :)
@NewKidInTown Thanks :)
The thing is all the cool people I know exist online only, I have a few close online friends who know a lot of things about me and secrets that even my rl best friend know nothing about and in my situation those secrets can't be shared at least not now.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@PiecingBabyFaceTogether Funny how that is sometimes, we share online what we wouldn't irl. And yes, there are a few cool people here :)
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Online for me.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SweetMae That's understandable. What makes you nervous in person?
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@NewKidInTown Past experiences.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@SweetMae Once burned, twice shy kind of thing.
monte3 · 70-79, M
I think in person, on line so much can be hidden.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@monte3 That can happen in person as well, though the ability to deceive is much greater online, I agree.

@pagandad very true
Online, I’ve found. I’m less shy.
NewKidInTown · 51-55, M
@bijouxbroussard I would have to agree. I haven't found you to be shy at all :)
