.30-06 and 8mm Mauser do just about everything. I will take a .35rem when hunting in heavy brush.

@Randy4954 .35 rem beats through the brush and stays on path better. .30-30 is good for it too, but a heavy .35 is way better. Them fast screamers in light bullet to powder loads just wizz off of leaves and branches.
I was never a fan of light fast calibers like .243 and and such. It tends to get a little windy around here during hunting season and they just get blown around too much. I like.a nice hard hit as well.
I used 7mm rem Mag. And a few other of the big belted magnums but find them unnecessary for anything but ridiculously long shots across farms. I tend to take my game a little closer than that. Plus they are so.expensive to sight in with ammo prices as they are now. Couldn't get the guns so they manipulate things to jack up the price of ammo. Bastards.

the benefit of 45-70, cheap to reload, excellent in brush

@wildbill83 Well most are cheap to reload but I hear ya'. 45-70 is a great round.
