I’m going to America for the first time:

Things not to say or do?
Tip your servers and bartenders.

Nothing else really matters
@RemovedUsername650611 Excellent question. The standard wage for food servers isn’t very much, alas.
@GoodoldBob ridiculous

@RemovedUsername650611 The system works out very well for all sides in reality.
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
Don't refer to the US as "the colonies"

Don't refer to everyone as "yanks", especially if you ever visit the south

Don't confuse soccer with football

Remember that we drive on the "right" side of the road, not the wrong side like you brits =P

Don't expect tea at tea time =P

Be careful of offense, we shoot, not stab =P

Don't walk into a bar and shout "God save King George" lol
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@RemovedUsername650611 starbucks is a yankee thing... southerners drink real coffee... =P
@wildbill83 they have some Starbucks here. I actually prefer it to Costa. 🤫🤫
wildbill83 · 36-40, M
@RemovedUsername650611 their doughnuts suck too, if you want a real one, go to Krispy Kreme

Just be yourself
@SW-User have you met myself, mate? I’m so offensive 😂
SW-User
@RemovedUsername650611 then be nice lol
SW-User
Ahh anything goes in NYC
SW-User
Don't ask for a small portion of food. They don't understand what that is
SW-User
@RemovedUsername650611 cuz we waste stuff

@RemovedUsername650611 I kinda think it comes from being a nation built on immigration of the struggling classes. When they came here having full tables and plates of food and drink became a sign of success from starving in the homeland. So it became ingrained.
@MethDozer that does make sense actually
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
Nigger is probably a bad thing to say.
@dumpstermeow I’ve never said it nor will I ever.
Catzgano · 31-35, F
Act like you’ve been to nyc before....
@Catzgano as soon as I open my mouth they will know I’m not American 😂
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
Don't try the "house" wine and don't order light beer. American beers are pretty light to begin with and the house wine is usually shipped and stored in powder form like Kool-Aid.
@GoodoldBob I like to stick to liquor
kate21 · 26-30, F
don't spell things with a "U" unless the "U" is really necessary.
@kate21
What’s your favourite colour?
kate21 · 26-30, F
@RemovedUsername650611 😑 we really need to simplify english language spelling. it's absurd.

@kate21 hahahaha, we are right!
FattyMcFatts · 46-50, M
Where are you going?
FattyMcFatts · 46-50, M
@RemovedUsername650611 Yeah, do and say whatever you want.
@FattyMcFatts excellent. I’ll fit right in then
FattyMcFatts · 46-50, M
@RemovedUsername650611 Yeah man, have fun.
SW-User
Are you excited?
@SW-User I am actually. I’ve dreamed of going to NYC for as long as I can remember. I hope I’m not disappointed.
SW-User
@RemovedUsername650611 you won't be disappointed
@SW-User I heard it’s a lot like London but bigger. We shall see.
SW-User
"Better red than dead"
"Are you part negro?"
Groofydorkgerdo · 56-60, M
Don't refer to the states as 'colonies'...
MethDozer · M
It really depends on what part of the US you are visiting.
@MethDozer New York City
MethDozer · M
@RemovedUsername650611 Stay away from the Bronx in general. Talk to the taxi drivers to get a feel for what you are looking for and anything to be on the watch out in the areas you are in.

For the most part you will be pretty safe in most of the tourist areas of NYC. Just keep your back to the wall in the subway. It's not a dangerous place really, but like any mass transit hub there are always a few shysters.
@MethDozer thanks mate 🍻
