Do you think dogs will learn to recognise meat laced with poison?

I live alone far away from civilisation. For the past 3 weeks, I have decided to teach my boys, Bruno and Papi to recognise poison in their food. They are slowly recognizing certain item like bleach and rat poison.

One of the farmers told me that someone broke into their house while they were asleep by poisoning steak to knock out their guard dogs.

As long as they don’t die from the scent you can train a dog to smell out almost anything an alert on it.

It's a whiff, you're right they wag their tail as soon as they whiff it.

Well dogs can be taught many things so I suspect it is possible to teach them not to eat meat laced with poison.
@wstcstrob
They've picked up pretty quick.

I never had a pet, so idk.

Why you like away from civilisation? Where do you live, mountain, forest, huge farm land??

@Random1Thoughts oh cool. Is it state of Texas?
@MenzernaSF4000
It's not in the US, Texas is a place I want to visit in the future.

With a gun, yes. But to go up one on one with a guard dog is a death wish. Maybe they're equipments specifically used to disable a dog that I don't know of.

There's a famous dog in China: Saihu. She ate poisoned meat to warn everyone it was poisoned. She died, I think there is a statue of her now.
Wow, what an amazing friend to humans.@ButterFly2023
