If your ex wants you to be be friends with him, would you?

My ex has asked me if I could remain in his life but as a friend. There was no cheating when we broke up, we just had too many other issues.

I think that's difficult tbh.

It didn't work for my ex and me since he kept on referring to our relationship. Even years after. I gave him several chances to be friends, thought my personality and traits could help him become a better version of himself. I still cared about him as friends.
Between each chance, there was a very long period of having no contact with eachother but he kept on contacting me after a while again. The situations would be different each time too. Last time, he had a girlfriend and I thought that would change things. But nope, after the girlfriend broke up with him... he went on a trip and visited all of the places I ever went to during our relationship (that only lasted a year). He visited my old school, was in front of my parents house to just "look" at it, ... He never stalked me until he did that, hence that happened after we had broken up 9 years ago. Go figure. I blocked him entirely since then. I feel bad for being so (?)unforgettable(?). I mean I don't even get it, it wasn't that great of a relationship and we were still very young back then. Sometimes I think he just misses that time of having no worries and having a good person by his side. I just finally realized I can't give that to him anymore and there really is no use for us to stay in contact.

I guess it depends if you can both deal with eachother just as friends.

I broke off the relationship and wondering if he wants to remain friends for his own peace of mind.
