If your ex wants you to be be friends with him, would you?

My ex has asked me if I could remain in his life but as a friend. There was no cheating when we broke up, we just had too many other issues.

From what I learned this depends on many factors and sometimes it can really work out and sometimes (or maybe often enough) the wounds are too deep to even think about it. It happened once to me that I had a good friendship afterwards.
