Why do people expect a universe full of randomness to be fair?

Because people believe in karma, or in a God who is just. And I think that for many people, believing that things will work out well for them in the end if they do good for others gives them some sense of control, or security. But it doesn't work that way. People do good and are hated or ridiculed for it. People do evil and are loved for it. This world doesn't make any damn sense, and many people, myself included, find it very hard to accept and cope with that.

@TeresaRudolph71 But why are people do good hated or ridiculed for it? And why are people do evil and are loved for it? That doesn't sound very logical to me. 🤔

@NankerPhelge It's not logical, but here's what I think. Most people who do good are appreciated. But sometimes, some people with evil agendas will try to make them look bad, and they sometimes succeed. And quite often, people who do evil can be very clever and will sometimes make themselves look like innocent victims when their victims fight back. I've seen that happen here, in fact. And sadly, people can be very gullible and are all too willing to believe what they want to believe.

I think I see more examples of the second thing (evil people making themselves look good) happening than the first. But those people have to make their victims look bad, in order to make themselves look like the good guys.

@TeresaRudolph71 Why don't people "want" to believe the truth? I've had a lot of trouble because of that particular form of malice on the part of others even though they don't have a valid personal reason to be malicious towards me. For some unexplained reason, people don't always appreciate the naked, brutal truth being shoved in their faces the way I enjoy hammering it home, and believe it or not they would rather believe someone else's lies. Why do you think that is, Teresa?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@NankerPhelge People can become very emotionally invested in believing those lies. And like you said, the truth can be very brutal.

@TeresaRudolph71 Wouldn't it be simpler and less troublesome for them to become emotionally invested in believing the truth, however brutal it may be?
TeresaRudolph71 · 51-55, F
@NankerPhelge Yes, if the truth were told to them or became apparent to them from the beginning. It can be unpleasant and hard to swallow, but of course it is necessary. One needs to be on the watch for warning signs that they are being misled.
