Is there some new trend?

I was coming home quite late and saw some teenagers dressed up to go out with dummies (pacifiers) on necklaces. Is this a new thing, and why?

Just a phase. When I was that age, going to school in furry slippers was a thing. Safe way to stand out yet still feel like part of a group. Stretching those little teenage wings.
