Why can’t people differentiate hidden and private?

I keep certain things private because it’s not something I want to speak about. However, I’m told that I’m hiding things.

One thing that I have learned is that you shouldn't spend too much time writing what others think. Your life is yours and you can share or keep private whatever makes you comfortable.
