Yeah it's a ridiculous approach the admins have taken to practically ban children and teenagers on sw.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst it does cause some separation but the way ep was caused legal issues with underage people.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature So? It's the fucking internet. If you do not expect people to be people then stop using it and above all do not make a social network if you can't handle the humanity.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst laws may be different where you are but in the US the owners and admin would be held responsible if there were an incident. This is why they try tp cover their asses up front. Lawsuits and prison time isnt worth it just to appease a small group.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature If the case is that this goes deeper, then so be it. I say this to the body of law as well, if you can not handle free will and the potential creeps then you're in the wrong. Talking to minors is not a crime.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst we are all free to talk to them. They just arent free to view our dirty laundry.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature It's not free if you do not have full access. Try messaging one and you'll see for yourself.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature Instead of living with a pedophile here and there and accepting that they will be around, they pretend as if we're all pedophiles.
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst I understand. Its an attempt of the adults running this and other sites to protect the younger users from the garbage that wish to victimize them. It was an issue in internets early years. Its not ok for a 50 year old man to try to connect with a 16 year old for a sexual relationship. Theres been a history of actual stalking and kidnapping.
@MartinTheFirst Martin .. the laws of NY, Maryland and California CONTROL social media activity related to bullying and social interaction with minors.

Maryland's is the most onerous.

California's is the vaguest.

In both scenarios, attornies have been rigorous in attacking social media.

Facebook alone is spending more than $20B to change their social interaction model.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature No. It's not to protect the younger people, it's an attempt to protect themselves, because they're cowards. Once again, notice how you're treated like a pedophile, you're not allowed to contact younger people even though you might be the most pure hearted of people.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@questionWeaver Yeah it's only beginning...
@MartinTheFirst yes ... this is a downside of globalism
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@questionWeaver Well it's said in the Bible that all nations will come together and have one hour with the Beast :)
NeuroticByNature · 41-45, F
@MartinTheFirst we cant open the door and let evil in then be angry at the evil for being evil. The world is not what you think it is. You may never know this. Do you know there are groups that track and kidnap 10 year old girls and boys for sale as a sex slave? It starts with a grooming process from adults.
@MartinTheFirst good descrption of California
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@NeuroticByNature There are all kinds of blackmarket trades. When there's a demand there is a market. Do you know what would be the safest routes of all to take if we wanted to protect people? Let's just put all of us in prison at once. We will live on a schedule, do the exact same activities each day, and whenever someone steps out of line, just shoot them in the head.
@MartinTheFirst ah ... socialism!
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
What I'm saying is that people can not hinder evil from happen before it happens. That's the limitation of being a human.

If you attempt it, then you will not only fail in hindering evil from happen, but you will also take away what matters to good people all over the world: The trust in that they're responsible enough to stay away from evil without having to be placed into a "crib", and the freedom knowing that they can make a mistake.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
Just look at SW right now. Nothing hinders a pedophile from creating a fake account as a 15 year old, nothing at all. However, we ALL good people are unable to contact minors.

Who loses?
Your argument mirrors the American 2nd amendment gun argument ... spot on match
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@questionWeaver Well I'm not invested in politics and especially not gun politics.
@MartinTheFirst but your common sense argument is identical to the 2nd amendment foundation ... both are common sense.

The same forces and same states that are against guns ... are the most vigorous for policing the internet.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
@questionWeaver well-well. Then some people from that side of politics have it figured out too I guess? 🤷 It doesn't make me part of them though, just because I share some views.
That is for you to wrestle with ...

@MartinTheFirst I think SW are doing a great job considering the difficulties they face. They are trying to make the site accessible to everyone without imposing restrictions on adults, so they have to limit what minors can see. That makes perfect sense to me. Don't forget, EP started out as a site for those aged 18 and over so the inclusion of minors came later on.

To take age related security further than that they would need independent information to verify the identity of the users so they may as well make SW a pay only site and ensure the cardholder information matches the account profile. Anonymity has benefits but can never offer perfect security between age ranges.
