Except that might be the point, if she's a progressive fighting for individual freedoms and rights today. Perhaps she's recognizing the similar sensibility of change that came in the 60's?

cothos makes a very good point - the shift in values between America immediately after WWI and America in the 70's was pretty astounding. Among other things, the 60's was largely a cultural uprising *against* the status quo from the late 40's and especially the 50's, and the 70's continued that in some different ways.
