h=2b+6
A=18
A=1/2bh
18=1/2b(2b+6)
multiply both sides by 2 to get 36=b(2b+6)
distribute the b to get 36=2b^2+6b
subtract 36 from both sides to get 0=2b^2+6b-36
Factor to get 0=2b^2+12b-6b-36 and simplify to get (2b-6)(b+6)
Set both factors to zero to get b=-6 and b=3
The length of the base can't be negative so the base has to be 3m and the height is 2(3)+6=12m.
