Erm... I've never known a man to play a trick like this to indicate his interest, though I guess some might just to be spiteful towards someone they don't care about, and just want to hurt.

I'm glad you have not. I've heard stories about a lot of nastiness towards women, and my guess is this kind'f thing, if ever witnessed, would be a consequence of that. If you're trying to make sense of a particular scenario, I'm sorry, I was just giving you my general reflections.
