What specifically is wrong with political correctness?

So you're allowed to use the first amendment to belittle others but when they use it to speak out to demand to be treated as equals and not be marginalized any longer that's bad?

Can you please provide an example or two? PC, as I understand the concept, deals with labels used as identifiers for groups (such as calling them "first year students" rather than "freshmen" to avoid a gendered reference term)

You won't provide examples? I guess our conversation has come to a conclusion then, but I fail to see how your first amendment rights have been countered since you just noted that you're free to ignore the PC request and speak as you wish.
