Asked the user with a confederate flag avatar.
Firespirit · 26-30, M
@Graylight Yes the battle flag of northen Virginia
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Firespirit And so much more, as you well know. That's a little like saying the swastika simply stood for German pride.
Donna15 · 41-45, F
@Firespirit I don't think that is correct. The Army of Northern Virginia battle flag was square, yours looks to be rectangle. Now there were a large number of rectangle flags used buy different Armies during the war of northern aggression but few from Va.
Firespirit · 26-30, M
@Graylight The swastika was bastardized by the Nazi regime. It has a rich history going back thousands of years. Its the just Americans and there obsession about race which give us the big problem.
Firespirit · 26-30, M
@Donna15 The pic got stretched trying to fit in the window
Donna15 · 41-45, F
@Graylight Spot on, Hilter runined the swasitika for everyone...
Every Arizona Highway route marker used to carry the swastika emblazoned on an Indian arrowhead before WWII
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Firespirit Yes, the swastika goes back much, much further than the Germans. However, after something is co-opted and identified so deeply and strongly with that cause, people, etc, it becomes a cultural icon. There's just no escaping that. Yes, there were battle Flags with the Confederate symbol emblazoned on them, but that flag became synonymous with defiance, slavery and racism. No discussion of its origins is going change that.

And this is not so much about an obsession with race as it is the constant vigilance to try and ameliorate the long history of racism in this country.
Donna15 · 41-45, F
The Confederate battle flag has only become a racist symbol in past 10 yrs or so. I've known people that have flown them in many states for years and no one associated it with racism until past couple years. Of course we can thank KKK for some of that, wish they had continued using US flag.

@Graylight oh please . Bill Clinton had confederate day while he was governor of Arkansas ... he and his wife are racists if the first order . There is nothing wrong with the democrat ie confederate flag
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Donna15 Simply not true.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@TexChik "But Bill..." "But Hillary..."

And once again, you refer to utter BS as proof.
TexChik · F
@Graylight it’s fact , but as a lib you run from it . All easily verifiable , the articles are still there . But you aren’t interested in the facts .
Donna15 · 41-45, F
@Graylight what part are you confused about?
Graylight · 51-55, F
@TexChik https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-clinton-confederate-flag-conspiracy-theory-is-a-new-low

Now you provide a source.

@Donna15 What are you referring to?
TexChik · F
@Donna15 I think she’s choking on it
TexChik · F
@Graylight a revisionist history article? Please . He had a confederate flag framed on his office wall ... I saw the pic . His mentor was a grand dragon in the KKK
Donna15 · 41-45, F
@Graylight you said my comment wasn't true....but it is true!
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Donna15 Ah. I only meant the controversy extends back to at least the 40's.

@emmayoung Proud of veterans of both sides that fought and died be that for or against Slavery. They are all Vets and should be treated as such.

@emmayoung They are officially honored as veterans either way. yes Slavery was apart but black and men men and women still fly the flag to honor there family and history. Seems rather childish to discrete a grave over something that happened So many years ago. The British did also but we don't judge the Union jack the same.
