That's probably the sensible way to look at it. I think what they mean is .... the ones that are not mentally, emotionally or financially stable. The ones with issues or or the ones who really cant afford it. It's kind of selfish to bring an innocent child into that kind of situation, no? Just a thought. 😕

If only the rich had kids humans would die out. Who would do all the regular jobs.
@SoulAsylum Very true. But, if I was piss poor, which I borderline am, I wouldn't want raise my kids without. 😟
I have had four children. I think most couples want children to love and to enhance their lives. It can be seen as selfish in the sense that to-be parents want a replica of themselves or something. However, in another more magnificent way, having a child is so NOT selfish at all. Being a parent means sacrifice, a lot of it, and a lot of the time. It means putting the needs of your child before your own. It involves being there for your child very closely at least for the first 18 years. I am glad I had my children when I was young. To see them grown and happy and following their dreams and starting their own families, is very humbling and makes me feel blessed.

No it's not selfish at all..anyone who has kids knows there is nothing selfish about having children..it is very hard!!
Good point. True. 😟

And others say that not having children is selfish....don't listen to anyone who is not going to help you raise those children.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
well no. .it cannot be.. as someone has to have kids or there would be no future generation to work and help pay for the older generation's pensions... I get that we are over populated so having too many may be selfish but in some ways it's perhaps selfish not to have them, (tho there again if no one chose not to have kids we would be even more over populated)

having a child is like having your heart walking around outside your body.
Beautiful words. Well said. You Need to patent that.

Its the truth.

It can be selfish. It's definitely selfish if you are having children with some agenda in mind, like making the child be who you want them to be rather than who they want to be, I'd say having a child is also selfish if you know fully well you can't support it for example. I would even call it selfish to have a child if you are just having one because other people want you to have a child. Mind you I don't think selfishness is the worst thing in the world depending on the magnitude of it but selfishness to me just means doing something with your own interests taking priority over the interest of other involved parties
True. You get my drift.
There's nothing selfish about having kids.. in fact it's the other way around lol.
FeralMindset · M
having kids is a lot of work and at the end of it there's a50% chance they'll blame you for all their problems.
SoulAsylum · 36-40, M

And yet we still love them.

I totally agree... The world is becoming worse day by day pollution, poverty, diseases, and certain death. The tears are way more than laughter.
hunkalove · 70-79, M
Considering there are 7 billion people on this dying planet, I would say it's very selfish.

SW-User
That is dumb, you have to be willing to go without things you want to provided the things they need and to give up your free time in order to raise them.
SoulAsylum · 36-40, M
Exactly, I never understood people who think that.

SW-User
Maybe having three or more is socially irresponsible- thus selfish.
