What does it take to get some of you to come out of "hiding " and respond to posts?

Generally speaking, I can suggest three things to get people to talk on forums such as this.

One, comment on someone else's post. One that is reasonably active. This has the best chances of you starting a conversation with someone. Choose a post you're interested in, of course. That helps in meeting like minded people.

Two, if you solely want to post things and not comment a lot... then you may want to post something specific about a topic everyone can relate to, but ending in a question. People are more likely to respond, when they are being given an opportunity to voice a clear opinion about something.

Three, go the other way, and post a very broad question, but an inviting one. You'll either get genuine or smart ass answers, but the point is once someone answers, you can then comment on that... and they'll respond to that most of the time and so start a more specific conversation. This post is a good example, actually. :)

There you go. Those are my three suggestions for you. Hope it helps. Also, I briefly skimmed through your posts... we have a few common interests... well... common ground, let's say. I have issues with depression, and I write too. :)
