How has the phrase "I'm weird" gone from being shunned to everyone using it to look cool?

If I hear another person tell me they're weird,I will scream. We do not have to conform to trend to be cool.

It seem, admitting to being weird is the cool thing to say nowadays.

Well some people recognize that weird is just different and it is the different person that enables all progress. Otherwise we would just keep doing the same thing and make no progress. But the people you are talking about are pretending to be weird so as to be not seen as following the sheep. But they are the sheep and don't really know how to be weird.
