I hate that. I make it a point to start my baseline at 18% and then it goes from there to anywhere in 20-21 for good service, 25 for great and 50-100 for exceptional service. During the Christmas time, I ensure I find atleast one student (who I assume is paying for college tuition thru the job) and give them a holiday giveaway (200-500 dollars).
The real issue in this Godforsaken system is the onus on tips to cover a living wage. That is the shit. I wish they moved to a salary based living wage guaranteed and then tips can be bonus on top of that. Works so well everywhere, but ofcourse USA has to be different.. shit but different.
