I knew a vet in Pennsylvania who ran a big cat refuge. On the occasional days he gave tours, I would go to see the magnificent creatures in their Hilton-posh captivity. The tours started in a big barn, the big box stalls once for horses now their indoor homes, with long runs leading to spacious covered chain link enclosures. With the tour attendees standing no more than six feet away, the vet opened the stall door to reveal a tiger the size of a luxury car, absolutely no restraints. He put his fist into the tiger's mouth and rough-housed with it, small children and their parents (and me) within the reach of a casually stretched paw. It was a kick, but it was crazy.
