Why do people point out things you already know?

The only time when it's ok in my opinion is when they do so to break the ice or something, otherwise it's unnecessary.

Perhaps they're trying, albeit awkwardly, to offer you a complement?

I agree! I think 6'0" and up is tall for a woman, hell it's tall for anyone!
