Have you ever been judged for having a different accent or dialect?

If so, how?

I find that most people say "buk" whereas I pronounce "book" the way it's spelt because people from my city tend to say it like that馃し馃徑 Which is why a few relatives and friends from different cities find it annoying.

Fek off mate. Let my books and I be.

I am a native of Iowa. I moved to North Dakota in 1998, and I lived there for nineteen years. For the first few years, people would say, "You're not from around here, are you?" Or, "Where's your accent from?" Several people told me they thought I was from "The South." I had a few co-workers whom I "rubbed the wrong way" just because of my "accent." I have a typical Midwestern Nasal Twang.

@Byron8by7 People didn't react well to your accent? Well, that's just dumb. Even if someone doesn't have a liking for a particular accent, why let that get in the way with getting to know you. That's pretty ignorant.

I think for some it was as much a matter of me being an "outsider" as it was about my "accent."
