Do you have depression?

Abstraction · 61-69, M
For 15 years I did. I get it. It's suffocating, choking...

The last ten years, no.

@Abstraction How’d you overcome it if you don’t mind me asking

@Blessedbeyond After two failed attempts at therapy, the third person helped. In the end no drugs at all - I'm not against them, they can help, but it is not primarily a chemical problem. It was Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (the most effective evidence-based treatment for anxiety/depression) + a good therapist.

It began with being able to identify the triggers and the slide. Depression is like railroad tracks downhill, it's hard to stop. But everytime you do it gets easier. I found I would feel it, then examine what was going on (which I could because of the insights from SBT), and say - I'm not going to take my thoughts seriously today. My perspective is distorted. I'll think about these serious things tomorrow.

I’m doing CBT right now and so far so good. It’s still difficult to apply the techniques and sometimes the anxiety gets the better of me even while doing them but it has helped in a way. The therapist is very technical rather than therapeutic but Thanks for sharing man!
