How likely is it someone will go to jail when caught driving without an Lic first offense ?

Here’s more information ..
The person I know who got this got 9 tickets and over 1000 dollars in fines .. the tickets were more then just having no lic.. expired registration apparently endangerment of others ? Failure to yield (though he says those aren’t true) and some others .. the cop said he’s lucky he doesn’t take him to jail and that he is going to court..

In many jurisdictions, you can go to jail with that list of charges. With the added offenses, your friend is very lucky that the officer did not arrest them, impound the vehicle, resulting in bail, towing, storage and other impound fees. He cut this person a break.

The officer is not going to let this slide by not showing up to court, and a prosecutor will see a slam dunk with a case as presented, and the laundry list of charges. Conviction on one of them at the misdemeanor can result in jail, even for a few days, plus community service and probation, etc. After that, insurance can be deemed high risk for convictions of driving without a license and/or registration and/or insurance, when one does want to drive after the fact.

Does this person not have a license, or was it suspended? IF it was suspended, I would be surprised that they were not immediately arrested. If the license expired, that's a different situation, depending upon how long ago the license was not renewed.

Check criminal defense attorneys in your area for question and answers for the penalties and explanation of the potential outcome of the charges. They will give the worst case scenario, but with a list of charges, at the misdemeanor level, I'd lay odds that incarceration for a few days would be a result.

From your description of this person in a comment here, I hope he does go to jail. He sounds incredibly irresponsible.

@TheProphet why do you say that /:

@Zelda Because of the amount and severity of the tickets.

That’s a terrible citizen and I’m sure he’ll have house arrest or jail time.

In fact it’s an automatic 2 months in jail here depending on the reason for suspension.

@DancingStarGoddess are you sure? Re read the post I added more info
@Zelda ahh the extra things might get them some time, but more than likely first offense is probably serious community service, and whatever else they can throw at them, and "possibly" some short jail time.

Revoked license is what will get you sent to jail.
