I appreciate many of the things she did for me when I was young, during the 50% of time that she was sober.
She died, aged 91, about 6 years ago.
I'd like to say I respected her because I believe every human being deserves respect, simply for being sentient.
But I can't.
She was an alcoholic with Korsakoff's dementia, no empathy, no conscience, no memory, and very little intelligence.
The consequences for me, my sister and my father were disastrous.
