@patti. No, defense lawyers cannot simply quit a case for those reasons at all. There are cases in which an attorney may request that the court allow them to withdraw from representing their client due to ongoing fraudulent activity, failure to pay fees or refusal to follow attorney advice, but quitting a case due to feeling like your client is guilty will rightly get an attorney disbarred and create the need for retrial since it would prejudice the jury against the defendant in a manner that denies them due process.
