You know they can use words to make something seem nicer than what it is in reality. I just wonder what this is all about myself.

@cherokeepatti It's about creating an internet caste system, and giving large corporations unprecedented regulatory powers.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@VeronicaPrincess If they start charging money for every website I visit it might be time to cut off the internet, just sayin'
Tracos · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti it basically man's that the companies that provide hardware, software and data can and may decide what you get to see and at what speeds...

It could mean that apple devices only shows CNN news or your data provider will never share anything that shows the coca cola logo since they have an alliance with Pepsi... Or SW will be blocked by Google because they want to provide a similar service...
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos If they block SW they are going to lose me using their search engine.
@cherokeepatti That’s what I’m saying. I’m not paying money to waste time 😜
Tracos · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti no they won't... Because you won't have an alternative on your phone....
....and you might never know why SW becomes gradually slower till you can't use it anymore
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@cherryxblossom I'm already fed up with the price of internet services. I almost wished I'd never signed up for it.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos I don't use my phone much for the internet.
Tracos · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti it's only examples.... What it means is that your providers determine what content you can or cannot get...

I know several telcos already wanted to block their users from using Whatsapp and Skype...forcing them to use their services instead of easier or cheaper alternatives
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos If they screw around with my favorites too much why would I even want to keep the internet? They are going to shoot themselves in the foot if they do it.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Ripping us off and controlling our behavior. @cherokeepatti
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
@jackjjackson Indeed! 😞
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@jackjjackson when they take the fun out of surfing the web I'm done I think.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Cutting yourself off puts you at risk of becoming a societal outcast. They have screwed us systematically. @cherokeepatti
Tracos · 51-55, M
@cherokeepatti internet is far more than only websites on the www... With more and more connected devices, like cars, TVs even toothbrushes and fridges are becoming part of the internet...

Companies owning those devices get to decide what you see, use and as such influence deeply what you know and do....
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
The vast majority of people will go with the flow so as not to miss anything. @cherokeepatti

Not to mention your heat air conditioning lock to get into your house security system. It goes on and on. The tentacles spread daily. @Tracos
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Tracos the simpler we keep things the better off we are. I would love to build an off-grid home and live off the land due to this bullshit.
