Seems like I'm clearly outnumbered but let me just state my case.
First of all, I am totally against animal abuse. It is not right to hurt a defenseless animal. It's mentally sick really, and I believe they should be punished. But personally, I think five years is excessive. Perhaps three to six months, yes. People sometimes get less time for crimes committed against people.

@xRedx You are right about sentences being less for other crimes. Like rape, why does a fucking rapist get barely any time??? If any!!!

@Winterskies right? These people are blind, I am totally against animal abuse. But five years is excessive. From what I heard, the dog didn't die. The owner didn't feed it and it had some bruises but it survived.

@xRedx it's easy to understand the reaction though. Animals are helpless and depend on us so the abuse is particularly heinous. It's hard not to get riled up about that.
