They can to some degree.
However, you see what happens when humans try to govern others...
We asked for human kings, and that would be our own undoing.
Only God can truly govern us.

@MikefromEP Christianity came from the beginning and end of Jesus Christ's life. Before that, people would simply refer to the God of Abraham, and Moses when talking about spiritual matters. The Jews often brought good teachings.
