EP vs SW?

[c=#800055]Hello there,
I came across this website just now, and it looks almost identical to EP. For the ones who were a member of both, are there any major differences that you noticed? How do you feel about Similar Worlds so far?[/c]

About the only major difference is the lack of a whiteboard.

EP closed down due an incident that was likely to become a legal problem for them had they not just shutdown.

@NCCindy What was the issue? Also, pardon my ignorance, what is a whiteboard?

@NCCindy EP didn't closed because of that incident. that was just a very lame excuse. the true reason was because they sold all the data to marketing companies.

@dyingroots I've heard two versions:

1 - Someone lured someone on the web site to a remote place and murdered them

2 - Violations of some US Government relationship involving minors and privacy.

If you Google "Experience Project Shutdown", you can find more info

A whiteboard is a way to send semi-public messages to people ... it was a fun feature of EP that I miss.

@NCCindy I've all the documented proof about what happen.
if 1 - that happen that would be irrelevant. that happens on a daily basis on facebook. there's billions of users
2- the servers weren't located in US and there were no violations whatsoever.

@unknownpoetx Then why wouldn't they continue to collect the data and continue to sell it.
unknownpoetx · 36-40, M
@NCCindy they couldn't sell until it closed

[@HelpfulCP I feel like it probably had to be more than a murder case, because people have been murdered from interactions on Craigslist and probably Facebook.
But everything else makes sense. It is a shame though.

@dyingroots THERE WAS NO MURDER. even if there was that would be no reason to close.
@NCCindy Ep closed down as they had their licence to operate a social media site revoked by MS. EP staff has not been adhering to their own TOS or their own Community guidelines. Complaints we re made by users--some to the FCC. They were forwarded to MS. MS had enough and issued a 60 day cease notice. and they had 60 days to close down. Kanjoya, their parent company , the one that owned them. then tried to save face. It was convenient that the murder happened when it did as it gave them an excuse- that was never admitted- to close the place. That is why EP can never exist again- and why , on the legal page of this place- and the front page, it state they are not related to EP. Kanjoya, the parent company also ceases to exist as a company now- as it was acquired by a larger corporation.

As for me- give me the choice and I prefer EP -no contest. Ep could have an intimacy and a closeness to it -and there was a ton more to do at EP. This place lack all of those.
@dyingroots There was a great posting on EP just before it shut down. It was the truth about why EP shut down. I wish I had saved it. It was the truth.
