Ugh,yes and I just hate that. What we forget we leave on the burner the most, though, is our empty cast iron skillets. After we wash them( yes, I know you are not supposed to wash them, but I do without soap) we set them on the stove burner under a low flame to dry them quickly, so they don't rust. Many time we don't remember them until the house starts smelling like hot cast iron. The good thing is that all you have to do is re-season them when you do that, but the smell isn't wonderful.
