What's your opinion on long distance relationships?

UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
They're difficult but can work if you actually put in the work and dedication.
SW-User
I could see it if it was for a finite length of time and a good reason such as university or military service. Otherwise I think one or the other of the people gets frustrated with the lack of proximity and starts to wonder why they are doing the LD thing. I know from experience that the connection you feel can be as real as any relationship. But if you can't touch and go out and cook and all of those things and there's no prospect of it then the connection wears thin.

Bit of a myth.
I mean if you aren't with that person, where's the relationship ?
whateverhappens · 26-30, F
people gotta stop complaining its a thing
Reject · 26-30, M
They work, but only for a very select minority. Everyone else isn't romantic enough.
@Reject Fuck you

I hate them personally but other people's relationships are none of my business
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SW-User I legit know like, one couple who made an LDR work for any length of time and I've known a LOT of people who have tried. They're sort of a model for it, but they appear more the exception then the rule.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@CountScrofula And I know close to 10 who had success. Two close friends, two exes and a handful of acquaintances. It's all a matter of who you associate with, statistics are funny that way.

They're a challenge, but not an insurmountable one.

I personally would never get involved in one cuz the distance for me would be to hard to overcome If I'm gonna be with someone I need to actually be with them I can't properly express my feelings on here or skype

You also have to have realistic expectations and communicate extremely well. It takes more effort, but it’s worth it if you find the right person. It can be very rewarding, and intimate, despite the distance.
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
It's rough. One of my best was long distance, but only seeing each other every six months or so was brutal. Obviously it didn't work out.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
You gotta know what you're signing up for. They can work, but often people find it to be harder than they expected.

The lack of intimacy can jade the spirit. They can be worth it.
If you budget your time it can be a huge investment from yourself.

You have to be creative about how you maintain a connection.
