When applying for jobs why does the application sometimes ask your sexuality and religion?

Because they like making fun of religion and sexuality at the lunch and doesnt want someone who will ruin that for them. I was with a company who did that once, it was awful. They were talking about how muslims rape people like animals and were really visual with their wording. Thats why im not an engineer today.
