Should evolution and creationism be taught side-by-side in school?

Yes. Both are theories that ultimately need to be accepted by faith. Creationists should not feel threatened by evolution being taught and vice versa. Each student should be taught all views equally and be allowed to make their own choice.

@SW-User Thats absolutely not true. Evolution is a theory backed up by evidence & repeatable investigation. Creationism is NOT a theory, just a wild-ass opinion pulled out of the collected assholes of the Bible writers. These two things are not remotely similar.

@SW-User I'm not sure your definition of "theory" is accurate. Might want to look in to the differences. Specifically, what "theory" means in a scientific context. It may not mean what you think it means. Side note. We have a separation of church and state in this country. Public schools are part of the 'state."

@SW-User That's when the Supreme Court ruled. It stopped being taught across the board in the mid-1800's

@Ynotisay @SW-User Perhaps you should look into what separation OF church and state actually means. It is separation of, NOT FROM. The whole point of it is religious tolerance and freedom.....

@firefall That's your opinion. I may share your opinion and I may not. It doesn't matter. Both should be taught as the theories they are. Evolution is NOT fact it is theory. Creation has scientific evidence that can back it up as well, but it is still not fact, but theory. Therefore both should be taught.

@SW-User Evolution is a theory, as I already said. Creationism has absolutely no scientific evidence at all, and it is NOT a theory because it is not a reasoned series of statements leading from presuppositions to a conclusions, but just a wild assertion. You dont get to change the meaning of words just because of your glorious Sky Fairy.

@SW-User there are facts of evolution. The "theory" is the 'best' explanation of those facts at this point in time. You cannot have a scientific theory without having facts to back it up. It seems by now that EVERYONE should know the difference between the scientific definition of theory, and the generally accepted use. The generally accepted usage would be more akin to a scientific hypothesis.

@SW-User @Lostinthefog Let me put it this way then. Evolution is not a fact or a scientific law....

There are ton's of facts dealing with evolution. If there were not, it could not have a scientific theory. The theory IS THE EXPLANATION OF THE FACTS.
Lostinthefog · 51-55, M
"A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment. Such fact-supported theories are not "guesses" but reliable accounts of the real world."

@SW-User Uh...no.

@Lostinthefog Where in science, has it been observed and proven that microbes increased their genetic information content and turned into men?

Where in science was the origin of life observed and proven?

I'm not a biologist. My daughter could tell you. If you truly want to know, and truly want to refute evolution, I suggest you actually study and discuss it with actual experts rather than believing what people who really don't have any idea are telling you. I took enough science courses to know the generalities and basic facts supporting evolution, enough to know there ARE tons of facts to support the theory. Specifics beyond that, you need to actually research and find what those who know what they are doing and done the work know.

@SW-User Yeah. You're probably right. I'd say making a man from dirt then stealing a rib and making a woman is probably the better call. Of course, them having two sons put a little crimp in the plan. Looks like one of them must have gotten Mommy pregnant. Freaky.

@SW-User cells don't carry information (what do you feel is being informed?).

Abiogenesis (the origin of life) is a separate topic from evolution.

One can (and should) discuss one without reference to the other.
