Question about culture?

[c=#002673]USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Scandinavia, Spain, Greece, Australia, New Zealand etc. These are all considered to be “western” countries. They all have different cultures BUT they do all share some commonalities between them that define them as “western”. What do you think are some of the qualities that all “western” cultures share?[/c]

Freedom of expression?
XenonRush · M
@SW-User That would certainly be one. The idea that the people have a right to speech.

@SW-User my response to that is - when? Because the west wasn't for free speech during feudal times. And you could sent to prison for being gay 100 years back
XenonRush · M
@basilfawlty89 Was being put in jail for being gay common in old Western European cultures?
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@XenonRush yep. See Oscar Wilde.
katielass · F
@XenonRush Um better look at that one again. Not so much unless you live in US.
@basilfawlty89 We just recently repealed so-called “sodomy” laws here. Which covered (but was not limited to) the criminalization of gay sex.

@bijouxbroussard Indeed. And see how Russia treats journalists and the LGBT community. See how Spain treats Catalans democratically voting for self-determination.

@XenonRush There are examples of this not being honored in the US. Several books have been banned. However, the exceptions in general prove the rule.
katielass · F
@SW-User the US government does not ban books. The only example of the government violating anyone's free speech is their negligence in putting the antifa down when they were preventing citizens from exercising their right to speak but a threat of a lawsuit and the government remembered they have an OBLIGATION to protect everyone's speech. No longer will the anti-American left be allowed to violate others rights.

@katielass You're arguing about something that wasn't brought up because you're always so unhinged about "the left." Public schools have banned books and in 1921 Ulysses was banned.

Also, I said these are exceptions.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
@katielass Bahahaha. The righty tinfoil hat reactions whenever Antifa is mentioned. Yet you are fine with Neo-Nazis running women over.
katielass · F
@SW-User I made a valid comment to your comment. Shame everything flies over your head.
katielass · F
@basilfawlty89 I am? On what do you base that on you pos? Of course, it came out of your ass when you pulled your head out for its daily airing.

@katielass A public school just banned "To Kill a Mockingbird." I'm against that as are you and the ACLU.

Heather Heyer was murdered by a Neo-Nazi in Charlottesville. Yet your ilk and your pos president are too busy whining about Antifa. Antifa has never killed anyone. The KKK and Neo-Nazis have. Your orange blowhard removed them from the terror list.
