Why do people make fun of and belittle people who self-harm

Being someone who cut themselves people use it as a weakness and try to belittle you about doing it to my own body. When it in no way affects them so why should they care. Or they say your a weak person for doing and dont want to be seen out in public with you. Thats happened to me before. Or use it as a joke to hurt themselves even more.... .
